Tyler finishes fourth at Slinger!
May 18, 2008 - Tyler James led the
opening laps as the inside groove moved forward at the drop of the green
flag with Gregg Pawelski and Scott Ascher sliding into second and third
while Jimmy Dragich, Jon Ovadal Jr., Brad Keith, Steve Apel, and Dave
McCardle all battled for positions behind the leaders. The hard racing
between the cars in the tightly bunched pack behind the top three resulted
in many of them spinning around in the third turn on lap five as the caution
flag waved with James leading Pawelski and Ascher. As racing resumed, James
maintained the top spot using the inside groove while Pawelski rim-rode the
top line alongside as Rob Braun and Scott Ascher raced with Ryan Carlson for
third. The inside line eventually began to prevail as James held the lead
while Braun and Carlson also used the inside to move alongside Pawelski and
Ascher in two-by-two formation behind the leader just before the caution
flag waved again for debris on lap 15.
James again used the inside lane for the restart but as racing resumed,
Pawelski charged hard on the top side to remain alongside in a battle for
the lead while Carlson slotted in front of Braun for third. Pawelski and
James continued to race side by side for several laps before Pawelski’s car
slid loose exiting turn two on lap 18 and nosed hard into the wall, bringing
out the caution flag for a third time with James now leading Carlson, Braun,
Ascher, and Jon Reynolds, Jr. As the green flag reappeared, it was Carlson’s
turn to take a shot at the lead from the outside lane and this time he
eventually made it work, taking command of the race on lap 20 after battling
alongside James for the lead. Once out front, Carlson was able to pull ahead
as Ascher and Reynolds began to move forward, taking over second and third
place respectively by lap 23. At the finish, Carlson took the checkered flag
for the win ahead of Ascher and Reynolds while James and Braun rounded out
the top five.
Ryan wins semi and
finishes 13th in the feature at Jefferson!
May 10, 2008 - Saturday was
going to be a new adventure for the race team for it was our first time out
with our "new" car. We were able to do a test session before Saturday but
still things can happen in race time. We looked at the day to be a learning
day and were looking forward to getting Ryan some seat time and that's
exactly what we got. Qualifying didn't turn out in our favor as we ran the
best time of the day but a lot of drivers did the same, we ended up
somewhere around the 20th fastest mark. But it was going to be a learning
day. The qualifying time put us 2nd row outside for our heat and within five
laps Ryan made it to the front and finished the last five in the top spot
getting the car its first win and Ryans first heat win at jefferson. The
Semi Feature stated off rocky as coming to get the green another driver
drove over his head and spun into our door, rain started to come down and
everyone went back to the pits, once the rain delay was over we started the
race again this time from the 3rd row inside. Once again after the laps
started counting Ryan made his way to the front and took the lead with five
laps to go and went on to win the semi feature. After a little down time it
was time to race again as we now started 15th in the feature, Ryan calmly
waited and passed when given an opportunity and made his was up to 11th.
With 8 laps to go the cars handling went away and Ryan made a long harmless
spin in one and two, bringing out the caution flag. Fighting hard once the
green came back out, Ryan made it up to 13th and that's where we finished
the night. Our next stop at Jefferson will be next jefferson May 24 with
Tyler driving.
Tyler finishes 7th in Slinger Opener!
May 4, 2008 -
Well the 2008 season wasn't looking that good for the jamesgang motorsports
crew. It rained Saturday raining bad weather made us stay home for
practice day at slinger super speedway. But Sunday's weather was much
better. Sunny skies and a little breeze made the racing day one to look
forward to. However that mind set changed after the first practice.
There were a lot of close calls when entering the corner due to brake
settings and by the time Tyler had an idea on what to fix, the first session
was over. The next session led to a very tight ill handling car that
wouldn't turn through the center of the corner. We tried to make adjustments
for qualifying but couldn't get past a 13.709 which put us 16th out of the
19 car field. We were going to be the last race of the night and starting as
far back as we were(8th row inside) we decided to make a big change in the
rear-end. That changed proved to be a good one as by lap 15 we were up to
10th. Moving through the pack is never easy but Sunday was more of a
survive night as four different cars spun or had contact right in front of
Tyler and he was lucky enough to miss them all. By the end of the race the
car became tight in the center again, but we still managed to climb to 7th.
Given the starting position, the team was happy with yet another top ten at
slinger speedway.
