Biography:
The racecar is owned and driven by Donavan Morgan. Donavan is a lifetime
resident of Wisconsin. He has been employed for twenty-one years at
Quad/Graphics of Pewaukee and currently works as a Press Mechanic in Quad’s
West Allis location. He is married to Shari and they have a daughter, Camryn and a
son, Cayd.
Racing has been a
part of Donavan’s family from the time he was born. As a kid, he watched his
father, Conrad Morgan earn track championships at area tracks such as Madison
International Speedway, Jefferson Speedway, Lake Geneva Raceway and Slinger
Super Speedway. His dream was to follow in his father’s footsteps and
become a competitive racer at the local short-tracks in Wisconsin.
In 1993, Donavan
purchased his first racecar and began to pursue that dream. He raced in
the Street Stock division at various tracks including, Slinger, Madison, Lake
Geneva, and the Wisconsin Dells Speedways. In 1995, he purchased his first
Late Model, a Randercar chassis, from his father and prepared for his
rookie season in 1996.
The first season in a late model was a year of learning and the team finished
18th in the points standings at Slinger Super Speedway. Each year brought
more improvement and in the year 2000, the team
upgraded their race program and purchased a brand new Howe Chassis.
Unfortunately, a
devastating crash
at the season's opener forced the team to
take three weeks off to rebuild the car. However, the team's luck would
turn around and Donavan would achieve his ultimate goal- to win a race
against his Father at Slinger, where his Dad holds six Track Championships.
He accomplished his goal by winning the Jasper Engines and Transmissions 65 lap
feature on June 11th, 2000. Donavan outran his Father by a few car lengths
for the victory. The following week, Father’s Day Weekend, the team once
again outran Conrad and took home back-to-back feature wins but this time by
only a half a car length at the line.
2001 was a
monumental season for the Morgan Motorsports team. The team finished a
stellar third in points at Slinger Super Speedway. Out of twenty-three
weeks of qualifying, the Morgan Motorsports Monte Carlo qualified in the top
five, fifteen times. The team’s qualifying efforts enabled them to
compete almost every trophy dash during the season, taking home four trophies.
Out of twenty-seven feature events at Slinger, the team finished a
remarkable, eleven top three finishes, including two feature wins. The
season also included four more top five finishes and the team only finished out
of the top ten a minimal three times all season.
2002 was filled with many highs and lows. We took home three
feature trophies and won three trophy dashes. However, a few cut tires,
loose
lug-nuts, a broken fan blade, and a broken tie rod, forced the team to settle for last
place in numerous races during the season. The team finished the season seventh
in points at Slinger.
Our
2003 race season was like no other. It was not what we expected and it
seemed that lady luck followed us week after week. We began the season on
a low note, crashing while passing for the second spot on lap 94 at Madison
International Speedway. For our first trip to the track, we had a great
run but, it ended in extreme disappointment as the team had to re-stub the car
the first race into the season.
For the 2004 season, we sold our Howe XL chassis, the one we won may races with
between 2000 and 2003, to buy a new Howe SS chassis. Our team was the
first to test this new chassis in the state. The learning curve we faced
with the new car and the bad luck we encountered throughout the season, made
things very difficult for the team. Our qualifying efforts placed us in
every feature event but we struggled to finish many races and took home numerous
DNF's this season. We managed to win three trophy dash trophies at Slinger
and also one trophy for winning a heat race at Madison. But we went yet
another year without winning a feature event.
The 2005 season was another season full of struggles with the Howe car. By
the end of the season, the team made the decision to sell the Howe car and
purchase a Lefthander Chassis. We raced the Lefthander three times and things were starting to look up for the team when we brought home a
few good finishes for the first time all year. However, things turned sour again
during the off season when several of our main sponsors decided not to return to
the Morgan Motorsports Team. After much thought, the team decided to sell
the car and retire from racing.
