Tyler
James (also know as Ty) was born on February 9th 1984 in his
hometown of Oconomowoc, WI . He spent most of his childhood playing around
cars. His father, Scott, was a trusted engine mechanic around
Oconomowoc and always had cars in the shop.
At age five Scott got Tyler involved in a small racing hobby know as slot
cars. Scott and Tyler continued their slot car hobby for 15 years traveling
around Wisconsin.
At the age of 17, Tyler decided to try the thrill of driving racecars and
started saving up for his first car. It wasn’t long until the James Gang had
a car of their own. After months of working and slaving Tyler had his first
race in the spring of June 2002 at Lake Geneva Raceway. After a rough five
races, the season was over.
The next season brought on Columbus 151 speedway where Tyler found many heat
wins and his first feature win nine nights into the season. The season went
well until the last month when an accident put Tyler on his roof going down
the backstech. He ended up hitting turn three head on, the car turned upside
down and finally came to a rest right side up in the middle of turns three
and four. However with help of Tomlinson racing the James Gang ended the
year top ten in points and rookie of the year.
2004 found the James Gang with a new chassis and the chassis learning curve,
but the team still found a way to gather another top ten finish in the
points.
2005 led the guys to travel slightly to Jefferson Speedway. In his first
race at the track, he finished 8th which gave him an overall
finish of 5th in the summer rumble (two day race between 151
speedway and Jefferson).
2006 started off with a great start winning the season opener at 151
speedway. No longer running for points the team did a little traveling
heading to slinger, Jefferson, and occasionally 151. Tyler managed to bring
home some fast dash, heat and semi feature wins at the various tracks giving
the guys good momentum heading into 2007.
Right now the plans are to continue heading to various tracks to get their
sponsors as much publicity as possible traveling throughout southeastern
Wisconsin. So look for the James Gang at Jefferson, Slinger, Dells,
Madison, Rockford, IL, and 151 Speedway.
Check the schedule page often to see when and where the team will be racing.
And, if you happen to come on out, make sure to stop on by and get your
James Gang Temporary Tattoo.
